Thrift Store Book Haul #10

blog-feature

Even though I swore that I wouldn’t buy any more books after my huge library haul earlier this year… I bought some more! I try to justify my little haul since I found these books on half off day at my local thrift store. Also, I found some great books to add to my collection! Here’s what I found:

  • Silver Bay by Jojo Moyes
  • The Cupcake Queen by Heather Hepler

I’ve never read a book by Jojo Moyes, but I know she’s a popular author so I thought it might be fun to try one of her books without paying a lot out of pocket! I’ve read The Cupcake Queen before, but don’t what happens in it. I remember thinking it was an okay read, but I want to read it again and see what I think of it now.

  • One-Handed Catch by Mary Jane Auch
  • One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia

One-Handed Catch seemed like a really interesting historical fiction book with an even more interesting main character. In this book, the main character really loves baseball, but after an accident at his parents’ store, he sustains an injury that leaves him with one hand. I saw One Crazy Summer on Goodreads and I was intrigued by the plot and the amazing cover… not to mention all its awards! One Crazy Summer takes place in the 1960s and follows three girls as they spend one month with their mother that they barely know and who also wants them to attend a Black Panther summer camp.

  • Also Known as Harper by Ann Haywood Leal
  • A Dog’s Life by Ann M. Martin

I’ve seen Also Known as Harper a few times, but never ended up buying it. It follows a girl named Harper Lee who enters a poetry contest at her school. It sounds like a good story, so I’m glad that I scored it on half off day! I don’t know much about A Dog’s Life by Ann M. Martin, but I’m a fan of a lot of her other books, so I’m excited to give this one a shot!

  • Magic Tree House Research Guide: Sabertooths by Mary Pope Osbourne
  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

I absolutely love finding Magic Tree House research guides, especially ones that correspond with books that I already own! I know these will definitely come in handy when I have my own classroom. I was also excited about finding The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe because I really want to read through The Chronicles of Narnia series. I found two of the other books in this series earlier this year, so I’m glad I found another one to add to my collection!

  • Pet Trouble: The Loudest Beagle of the Block by Tui T. Sutherland
  • The Puppy Place: Muttley by Ellen Miles

I couldn’t put down these two adorable dog books once I had them in my hands! The beagle books reminds me so much of my grandma’s dog and it sounds so cute, so I’m really excited to read it! The other book look like a great book to add to my future classroom collection.

  • Whistle for Willie by Ezra Jack Keats
  • Time for Kids Biographies: Clara Barton by Anna Prokos
  • Hopscotch Love by Nikki Grimes

I’m so happy that I have another book by Ezra Jack Keats in my collection. I’m also excited to find another non-fiction book to my collection featuring a diverse hero of American history! Just looking through the biography on Clara Barton, it looks like an easy to read book perfect for my classroom library. I’m not a big poetry person, but Hopscotch Love looks like a cute collection of poems, so I’m hoping that I enjoy it!

  • Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathmann
  • Zathura by Chris Van Allsburg

I was so excited to find these two books at the thrift store. Officer Buckle and Gloria is an award-winning book that I found in PERFECT condition at my thrift store! While my copy of Zathura has a tiny tear on the front cover, I’m really excited to find a Chris Van Allsburg book to add to my collection.

  • Big Nate From the Top by Lincoln Peirce

I’m always looking for more graphic novels to add to my collection, so it was great finding a Big Nate book to add to my collection.

  • The Fame Game by Lauren Conrad

I have the first book in the L.A. Candy series and actually thought this was the second book in the series. Since it’s the fourth, I’m going to have to scour some more thrift stores to find the other books in the series!

  • Surviving High School by Lele Pons and Melissa De La Cruz

Since this is such a recent release, I was surprised to find it in perfect condition at my thrift store. I wasn’t impressed with the last Melissa De La Cruz book I’ve read and am always wary of books by social media celebrities, so hopefully this book exceeds my expectations!
