A few weeks ago before my state closed all non-essential businesses and advised for social distancing, I went into a physical book store for the first time in awhile and made a purchase. Recently, I have stuck to purchasing books on my Kindle because I don’t have much shelf space and books are typically cheaper for the Kindle edition. However, I recently found some books that I have been wanting to read for a great price at Books-A-Million, which is sadly the only remaining bookstore within thirty minutes of my house. Luckily for me, all of these books were also on sale! Here’s what I found:
- Again, but Better by Christine Riccio
I have wanted to read Again, but Better for awhile, but never picked it up. They had it at my local library, so I thought that I would eventually request it and read it that way. However, with all of the physical locations of libraries shut down in my state, that is currently not an option. As a result, it makes past me happy that I decided to pick up this book when I did. Plus, I got the hardcover edition of this book for only $6!
Again, but Better follows college student Shane who decides to shake up her boring college experience by studying abroad in England.
- Love & Luck by Jenna Evans Welch
I read Love & Luck as an eARC before it came out last year. I absolutely loved this book and it makes me want to go visit Ireland someday. Since I did enjoy this book and I knew my sister wanted to read it as well, I decided to pick up a copy. Like Again, but Better, and the rest of the books on this list, it was on sale. I only paid around $5 or $6 (I could not find the price sticker for this one).
Love & Luck follows Addie who visits Ireland for her aunt’s wedding. However, Addie’s plans go in a different direction when she follows her brother on road trip around the country with her brother and his cute friend.
- Illuminae by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff
I was so excited to find Illuminae on sale at Books-a-Million! I read Aurora Rising earlier this year and loved it, so I really wanted to pick up the other series by this author duo. Unfortunately for me, my library doesn’t have this series, so it was one that I needed purchase. I could only find the paperback for Illuminae, which is okay by me even though I do love the hardback edition, because it literally fit perfectly onto my yellow, orange, and red shelf and the hardcover would have probably been to large. I purchased this book on sale for $5.
Illuminae follows two teenagers, Kady and Ezra, who broke up the same day that their planet was invaded. Separated on different warships, Kady and Ezra try to make sense of the events around them.
- Obsidio by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff
Just when I thought that I couldn’t get more excited about finding Illuminae, I also found the third books in the series, Obsidio! For Obsidio, only the hardcover edition was available. I’m not someone who needs to have all of my series be either paperback or hardcover since I sort by color rather than series, so it didn’t bother me to purchase one paperback and one hardcover. I purchased this book on sale for $6.
- In Some Other Life by Jessica Brody
This was the impulse purchase of the bunch for me. I haven’t read any books by Jessica Brody, but I remember hearing about this book vaguely upon its release. This book was only $3, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to read a book by a new-to-me author.
In Some Other Life follows high school student Kennedy Rhodes who turned down a private school to stay with her boyfriend who inevitably cheats on her. After she hits her head, Kennedy receives the opportunity to see what would have happened if she made the other choice.
